EMPORIA, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs men's tennis squad traveled to Emporia, Kan., but fell to the Emporia State University Hornets 6-1 Tuesday (Apr. 9).
In the doubles competition, Brouwer/Delgadillo won 6-4 on court three, but the Hornets grabbed the doubles point winning on courts one and two.
MC fought hard at all positions, with the bottom three spots each going to a third set. Marcus Nardy fell to Mostafa Elbasnaly 6-4, 6-2 to make it a 2-0 deficit, then Diego Calvo knocked off Arthur Nardy to put the Bulldogs into a 3-0 hole.
The Hornets clinched after Anton Sarunic took down Michael Beltran 7-6, 6-4.
Martin Millos, Celien Botlan, and Simon Delgadillo each forced a third set, with Millos falling 6-3, 5-7, 10-3 and Botlan falling 6-4, 6-7, 10-8. Delgadillo put the Bulldogs on the board, falling in the first set 6-4, but sweeping set two and winning the tiebreaker 10-7 to help the Bulldogs avoid the sweep.
MC is back in action Thursday (Apr. 11), traveling to Sterling College.
