SALINA, Kan. — The top-seeded McPherson College Bulldogs knocked off fifth-seeded Kansas Wesleyan Friday afternoon (Apr. 26) 4-1 to advance to the championship match of the KCAC Tournament at Genesis Health Club in Salina, Kan.
The Bulldogs made quick work of the doubles point, needing just 30 minutes to take a 1-0 lead. Oscar Brouwer and Daniel Marcano got things started with a 6-1 win on court two, then Celien Botlan and Arthur Nardy followed with a 6-4 win over Adam Hanson and Luke Craft.
Michael Beltran and Martin Millos were on top 6-5 over Bryce Ware and Jacob Phelps on court one when the Bulldogs clinched the doubles point.
Millos put MC on top 2-0 to start the singles competition, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Hanson, then Marcus Nardy finished of Alex Sherer 6-1, 6-1.
The Coyotes got on the board after a 7-5, 6-3 win by Ware over Beltran on court one, but Arthur Nardy clinched the win with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Raul Davalos.
Botlan won the first set 6-2, but trailed in set two 3-1 when the Bulldogs clinched the win, and Marcano was on top 2-0 in the second set after winning 6-1 in set one.
The Bulldogs will square off against the winner of second-seeded Bethel College and third-seeded Ottawa University Saturday (Apr. 27) in Lindsborg, Kan. at 2:00 p.m., weather permitting.
