McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs put their KCAC winning streak on the line Thursday (Apr. 4), and came away with the narrow 4-3 win over the Bethel College Threshers at the Bulldog Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs have now won 42 consecutive KCAC regular-season matches, and 50 consecutive regular-season and post-season matches against KCAC foes.
Bethel grabbed the early 1-0 lead after winning in #2 and #3 doubles. Petr Kollar and Tomas Quercia knocked off Daniel Marcano and Oscar Brouwer 6-2, and Jonah Bergeron and Rodrigo Sanchez took down Simon Delgadillo and Texas Ranger Schmidt 7-5.
The lone bright spot in the doubles competition came on court one when Martin Millos and Michael Beltran knocked off the No. 24-ranked doubles pairing of Milan Bucek and Michael Cech 6-3.
Cech gave the Threshers a 2-0 lead, taking down Marcus Nardy 6-3, 6-1, but Arthur Nardy put the Bulldogs on the board with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win over Quercia.
Beltran evened the score for the Bulldogs with 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 back-and-forth win over Bucek, the reigning NAIA Player of the Week, then Millos gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead after defeating Kollar 6-2, 6-1.
But the Threshers wouldn't go away when Sanchez took down Brouwer 6-3, 6-4 once again knotting the score with one match to play.
Marcano won the first set over Jonah Bergeron in the #6 position 6-1, but found himself in a 3-1 hole early in set two. But from there, Marcano stormed back to win 6-3, and keep the Bulldogs unbeaten in KCAC play.
MC will be back in action for a pair of matches this weekend at the Bulldog Tennis Center, hosting Evangel on Saturday (Apr. 6) before a showdown with No. 11-ranked William Woods University on Sunday (Apr. 7).
