Men's Tennis Picks Up Wins over Avila and Southwestern, Falls to Bethel

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson College men's tennis team picked up wins at Avila and Southwestern during the last week.

The team went 2-1 during the span, falling at Bethel by a 4-3 count.

Texas Ranger Schmidt and Jayson Wasserfuhr won by a 6-3 count at the top spot at Avila. Oscar Brouwer and Ayden Johnson cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 2 while Celien Botlan and Malik Brown won by an identical score at the No. 3 spot.

Wasserfuhr posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top singles spot. Simon Delgadillo and Balazs Temesvari accounted for identical 6-0, 6-0 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Schmidt tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot while Johnson bested his foe 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Brown, playing at the No. 6 position, also notched a 6-0, 6-0 win.

At Bethel, Botlan and Brouwer needed some extra time before defeating their opposition by a 7-5 score at the top spot. Delgadillo and Arthur Nardy won by the same score at the No. 2 position to clinch the point.

Nardy took down his foe by a 7-5, 6-3 count at the top spot. Botlan totaled a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot. However, the squad was unable to pick up the fourth point for the win.

At Southwestern College, Delgadillo and Nardy combined for a 6-3 win at the No.1 doubles spot. Johnson and Temesvari cruised to a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position for the doubles point.

Delgadillo wasted little time dispatching his opponent at the top singles slot. He won by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Temesvari garnered a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot.

Schmidt, playing at the No. 3 position, took home a 6-0, 6-1 win while Johnson's 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot secured the win for the visitors. s

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, Apr. 17, when they play at Friends University at 3 p.m.
