McPherson College senior John White was named the KCAC and Region IV men’s soccer “Player of the Week” for the week of September 24-30, 2006.
White scored seven goals and dished off two assists during the Bulldogs’ 2-0 week as McPherson defeated Bethany College, 17-1, and the University of Saint Mary, 6-0.
White netted a school record five goals and delivered two assists on Wednesday against Bethany before scoring two goals in the Bulldogs’ Saturday win over USM.
White’s five goals against Bethany gave him the McPherson school record for career goals with 25, surpassing the previous record of 24 by Pete Petrovski, set between 1993 and 1996.
“I’m very pleased to see John White recognized for his great performance last week,” said Doug Quint, McPherson College head coach. “He’s having a great senior year up front for us thus far.”
“John is finishing his (scoring) opportunities and creating opportunities for others.
“Last week, John became the all-time leading scorer in McPherson College soccer history. He just keeps adding to those record numbers and that is nice to see. We, as a team, need his offensive production up front.”
A 2003 graduate of Wichita (Kan.) Southeast High School, White was named to All-KCAC second team following his freshman and sophomore seasons.
White scored 7 goals and had 3 assists as a freshman, 5 goals as a sophomore, 5 goals and 1 assist as a junior, and entering this week had scored 10 goals with 4 assists as a senior.
The 17 goals scored by McPherson College against Bethany ranks among the NAIA’s top 15 all-time for goals scored in a single game.
