Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The Bulldogs offense exploded for three first half goals in a 4-0 rout of Central Christian College in the 3rd annual S.O.C.R. benefit game Wednesday evening at McPherson Stadium.
“Offensively we are really starting to come together,” said McPherson head coach Doug Quint. “Tonight we created so many quality chances to score. Alex Toro really controlled the pace of play in the mid-field for us tonight.”
“I thought we were spot on defensively as well. This is our fourth shutout of the season and overall we have only allowed three goals. We take pride in our defending and holding a team to only one shot on goal is quite an achievement.”
McPherson dominated play holding an edge in shots 27-5. McPherson goalkeeper Blake Jett earned his fifth win of the season, recording one save in 45 minutes of work.
The win improves the Bulldogs record to 5-1.
With the game scoreless in the 20th minute, Alex Toro played a thru ball past three Tiger defenders to Brent Mulford who struck the ball past the diving keeper into the back of the net.
The Bulldogs doubled their lead seven minutes later. Trent Lawrence dribble through a hole in the Central defense, but was taken down inside the penalty area. Mulford stepped up to the spot to take the penalty kick and blasted it into the upper right corner for his team leading sixth goal of the season.
MC struck for the third time in the 35th minute. Andrew Suits dribbled in, pulling the goalkeeper off his line and passed back to the feet of Sam Tucker who flicked the ball into the open net for his first collegiate goal of his career.
McPherson went into the half dominating the possession and the tempo of the game. MC outshot the Tigers 22-2, including 10 shots on goal.
MC continued right where they had left off, dominating possession to start the second half.
In the 60th minute, the Bulldogs struck again when Armando Rodriguez placed a ball into the lower left corner to give McPherson the 4-0 lead.
McPherson returns to action Saturday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Manhattan Christian College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
