McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s soccer program scored a pair of second half goals to earn a draw with the University of Sioux Falls Saturday afternoon at McPherson Stadium.
Senior forward Haley Cook (Littleton, Colo.) opened the scoring for McPherson in the 49th minute, as the USF goalkeeper failed to hold the rebound to bring the match within one goal, 2-1. Senior Ana Calderon (Lone Tree, Colo.) was credited with the assist.
Twenty minutes later the Bulldogs drew even when freshman Brittany Coxsey (Durant, Okla.) played a clearing ball out of the defensive third, which fellow freshman Kourtney Mitchell (Silt, Colo.) dribble approximately 60 yards before beating the goalkeeper in a one vs. one situation.
Both sides had opportunities in the overtime periods, but failed to score.
Sophomore Rachael Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led McPherson with three shots, while Amber McKinnon (Littleton, Colo.), Haley Cook and Stachea Perea (Colorado Springs, Colo.) each added one, respectively. Sophomore goalkeeper Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) played all 90 minutes, allowing two goals while recording six saves.
USF outshot the Bulldogs, 17-7, but MC held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday evening as they host Manhattan Christian College. Kickoff is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at McPherson Stadium.
