McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s tennis team won extended their winning streak to two with a 6-3 win over Friends University on Thursday afternoon at the McPherson High School Tennis Center.
With the win, McPherson improve to 5-4 overall and remain in second place in the KCAC with a 4-1 record, while the Falcons drop to 3-9 overall and 3-2 in league action.
The Bulldogs fell behind early as the Falcons won two of three doubles points. McPherson’s duo of Vyacheslav Bukatin (Moscow, Russia) and Thiago Da Silva (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) defeated Friend’s team of Colten Heinrich and Cory Cockrell, 8-5, to take the doubles match for the Bulldogs.
Despite the early deficit, McPherson came back to win five of six singles positions, including a win by Bukatin, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. The victory makes him 8-1 overall on the season and 5-0 in conference matches.
The most exciting match of the afternoon came at the No. 5 position, as McPherson’s Kyle Toland (Edwardsville, Kan.) came back from a first set loss to win the second and third, 6-2, 6-1, to defeat Friend’s Eric Berner.
The Falcons lone singles point came at No. 6 as Patrick Trollman knocked off McPherson’s Alex Jenkner (Dodge City, Kan.), 6-4, 6-1.
McPherson’s next match will be Saturday, April 23 when they host Bethel College. The match will begin at 9 a.m.
