McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson women’s soccer team defeated Southwestern College 2-0 on Saturday.  The victory brings MC’s record to 6-8-2 overall and 4-4 in the KCAC placing them fourth in the conference.

It took 42 minutes for the first goal to be scored but McPherson’s Kayla Besmer (Leavenworth, Kan.), coming off the bench, headed in a great corner kick from Gabriela Navarro (Wichita, Kan.) putting the Lady Bulldogs up 1-0 heading into halftime.

Another corner kick gave MC their second goal of the day with Haley Anderson (Highland Village, Texas) being on the receiving end of a Cheyna Buchman (McPherson, Kan.)n kicked ball.  Where corners have been the downfall of McPherson in previous games, the Lady Bulldogs used them to their advantage against the Builders.  The defense held for the final 20 minutes to preserve the 2-0 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) really shined on “Senior Day” as she grabbed 11 saves in her 90 minutes of shutout action.

One more regular season game is left for MC and it will be on the road as they travel to North Newton, Kansas on October 30th for a 5:00 p.m. showdown against the 5-12 Bethel College Lady Threshers.
