McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- McPherson College continues its journey in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday with a championship matchup with No. 3-seed Friends University at Adair-Austin Stadium in Wichita, Kan. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The fourth-seeded Bulldogs (14-4-2) advanced to the final with a 2-0 upset win over No.-1 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan University – the top-ranked team in the NAIA – on Wednesday in Bartlesville, Okla., while the Falcons (14-5-1) scored two goals 51 seconds apart to post a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over No. 2 Kansas Wesleyan University at Salina.
The winner receives an automatic berth into the 58th Annual NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. Opening Round play will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, with opening-round winners advancing to final site play Nov. 28-Dec. 3 at Seacrest Soccer Complex in Delray Beach, Fla. At the final site, teams will participate in a 16-team, single-elimination tournament to crown the NAIA national champion.
Friends won the regular-season matchup between the schools, 3-2, in overtime on October 8 at The Kennel. Leonardo Sosa scored off a direct free kick in the 99th minute for the game-winner. He had opened the scoring with a goal in the 33rd minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 halftime lead, but
Jesus Pescador (Valencia, Calif., College of the Canyons) knotted the game just two minutes into the second half off a cross from
Christopher Kelly (Glasgow, Scotland, St. Ambrose HS). James Togbah put Friends back up with a goal in the 60th minute, but
Brayam De La Cruz (Bellevue, Idaho, College of Idaho) answered less than two minutes later off another assist from Kelly.
