McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men's tennis team defeated NCAA D-II Emporia State University 6-3 on Saturday, propelling the Bulldogs to a record of 4-5 on the year.
The doubles matches did not go the way of MC as they were only able to grab one point with a win at the No. 1 position from Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez and Hector Carrillo Perales, 8-4.
The singles matches were a sight to see as five of the six went into a third set super-tiebreak. Fajula Rodriguez went the distance and won at the top position, 2-6, 6-1, 10-8. Following a 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 win by Carrillo Perales at the No. 3 slot, Hugo Ball-Greene made a great comeback at No. 4. Ball-Greene lost the first set 6-0 but battled back with a 6-3 set two win to force the third set; the France native jumped out to a quick lead and then coasted to a 10-2 victory which clinched the match for the Bulldogs. Timo Hoelzmann defeated Emporia's No. 5 singles player to give MC another point.
