Men's Soccer Tops Central Christian, 4-1, Behind Torres Hat Trick

Box Score McPHERSON, Kan. --- The McPherson College men's soccer team moved to 2-0 overall with a 4-1 win over crosstown rival Central Christian College Wednesday night at McPherson Stadium.

Senior forward Nick Torres (McPherson, Kan. / McPherson) registered a hat trick to lead the Bulldogs. He kicked off the scoring just one minute into the procedings off an assist from sophomore Chris Kelly (Glasgow, Scotland). Torres added his second goal of the game in the 21st minute off a penalty kick that found the lower right corner of the goal.

Central Christian (1-1) halved the lead just into the second half as David Martinez-Salinas sent a shot past McPherson keeper Aaron Parrott (sr., Wichita, Kan.).

The Bulldogs added a pair of insurance goals over the next six minutes as Kelly struck off a cross from Gomez in the 50th minute and Torres completed the hat trick in the 52nd minute off an assist from sophomore Tyler Minney (Stewkley, England).

Torres now has four of McPherson's five goals this season.

The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers, 14-7, and had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Torres finished with five shots including four on goal. Senior Jesus Pescador (Valencia, Calif.) added three shots, while Kelly and junior David Mwinga (Santa Rosa, Calif.) had two apiece.

For Central Christian, Martinez-Salinas and Sebastian Diaz Carbo both finished with two shots.

Junior Arthur Lamparter (Schweinfurt, Germany) got the win in goal after holding Central Christian scoreless in the first half. Parrott played the final 45 minutes, allowing the early goal while being credited with a pair of saves. Brian Silva played the entire game in goal for the Tigers, allowing four goals and making two saves.

"I was pleased overall with how we played," said head coach Doug Quint. "We dominated the match from the start and put it away less than a minute in. It was a solid 90 minute performance."

The Bulldogs are idle until Thursday, September 8 when they host Northwestern College of Iowa under the lights at McPherson Stadium to wrap the first day of the Red Card Cancer Classic.
