HILLSBORO, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The No. 22 McPherson College men's tennis team won its fifth straight match with a 9-0 victory over Tabor College Thursday at the Hillsboro Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs (6-3, 5-0 KCAC) started the match with a 2-0 advantage after the Bluejays (2-10, 1-4 KCAC) arrived with just five healthy players and were forced to forfeit matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
McPherson adjusted its doubles lineup accordingly, moving its No. 2 and No. 3 teams up one position.
Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and
Nicolas Wahl, now playing at No. 1, posted an 8-1 win over Illia Filanchuk and Jaime Sanchez, while
Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceotaller San Miguel) and
Timo Hoelzmann (Berlin, Germany, Schadow Gymnasium) overcame a 7-4 deficit to defeat Angel Miguel and Francisco Gallinal by a 9-7 score.
In singles play,
Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez (Catalonia, Spain) posted a 6-3, 7-5 win over Filanchuk at the No. 1 spot. Lahlou defeated Miguel, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and
Hector Carrillo Perales (Barcelona, Spain, Bom Salvador) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sanchez at No. 3.
Wahl and Jimenez closed out the match with 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The Bulldogs are idle Friday before facing (RV) Bethany College (10-5, 5-0 KCAC) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg. The match will be one of handful of key matches over the final couple weeks of the regular season that will determine the KCAC regular season champion and top seed for the KCAC Tournament April 27-28.
