Bartlesville, Okla. – The McPherson College women's soccer team went up against the KCAC's only undefeated team on Tuesday evening, the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. The Eagles showed why they haven't lost a conference match all season, defeating the Bulldogs 8-0.
With a playoff spot locked up, several Bulldogs who have logged significant minutes this season, saw limited action against the Eagles on Tuesday evening. Coach Olson chose to give regular starting goalkeeper,
Christie Silber (Jr. Simi Valley, Calif.) the night off, instead going with
Shayna Thompson (Fr. North Las Vegas, Nev.). Thompson was under fire most of the night, facing 18 shots on goal, and coming away with 9 saves.
The Bulldogs had just one shot on goal, that coming off the foot of
Isabel Medina (Jr. Garden City, Kan.) late in the second half. Other than that, all of the offense was generated by Oklahoma Wesleyan. The put up five goals in the first 45 minutes session, scoring in the 1
st, 22
nd, 24
th, 25
th, and 41
st minutes of the game. They added three more in the second half, the first coming just 3 minutes into the second frame, and the final two coming just 10 seconds apart in the 54
th and 55
th minutes.
With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 4-10-3 overall, and 4-5-3 in KCAC play. They have locked up the 6
th seed in the upcoming KCAC tournament, and will travel to Salina, Kansas this upcoming Saturday for a rematch against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in the quarterfinals. The Coyotes are seeded 3
rd and defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 a couple of weeks ago, all three goals coming off of set pieces. Kickoff on Saturday is slated for 4 p.m. at Graves Family Field.
