Salina, Kan. – The McPherson College men's and women's tennis teams were back in action on Saturday, on the road against KCAC counterpart Kansas Wesleyan University. Both Bulldog teams picked up the win over the Coyotes, the men sweeping them 7-0, and the women winning 5-2.
For the women, they started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches, to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead heading into the singles portion of the dual. The Bulldogs went up 3-0 when Polina Khoroshevskaya won her singles match at #2, followed closely by Vanessa Mundo at #1
The Coyotes got back into the match, closing to within one point by winning the #3 and #4 singles matches. From there, the Bulldogs closed out the match, winning the final two matches on court at #5 and #6.
Coach Allen commented on the women's match saying, "Our solid start in doubles really propelled us to victory today. In singles, we had some ups and downs, but we hung on and came away with the win. I am excited to see why the ladies will bring to the KCAC tournament in Topeka next week."

The men's match took just over two hours to complete. The Bulldogs started by winning all three doubles match, losing a total of three games in the process. Up 1-0 heading into singles, they poured on the pressure, and won all six matches. The Bulldogs won all of the singles matches in straight sets, losing just seven games. The closest match was at #1, where Michael Beltran won 6-1, 6-3. In all, the Bulldogs served up six bagels in the nine matches played.
"For the men, it was pretty straight forward a confidence builder for the KCAC tournament next week, and helping us to our goal to win the regular season and KCAC playoffs."

With the wins, the Bulldog women are now 9-4 overall, and 6-2 in KCAC action while the men move to 11-1 overall, and 8-0 in conference matches. The KCAC tournament will kick off next Thursday at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, Kansas. The Bulldog men will be the #1 seed, winning the conference regular season, and the women will be seeded 3rd.
The men will get an opening round bye, and will await the winner of Bethel and Tabor in the semifinals. The women will have to play a quarterfinal match, drawing the sixth seeded Friends University Falcons. The Bulldogs and Falcons will meet at 1:00 pm on Thursday, the men will play their semifinal match on Friday at 9:00 am. Â
