McPherson, Kan. – Sunday's men's tennis match against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders was a battle of KCAC unbeaten, with a regular season conference championship on the line. Both teams entered the contest with an 8-0 conference mark, but at the end of the day, the Bulldogs were the only team still without a blemish on their KCAC schedule. It was a tight match, but the Bulldogs outlasted the Builders 4-3 to secure the regular season crown.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start, securing the doubles point, sweeping the three matches. Leading 1-0 heading into the singles matches, the Bulldogs needed three matches to win the dual. They got the first of those three wins from Martin Millos on the no. 2 line, who won in straight sets. The other two wins wouldn't come so easily. The next win came from Daniel Marcano at no. 3. He also won in straight sets, but both of those sets went the distance and were decided by a tiebreaker. The Bulldogs led 3-0 before Southwestern made things interesting winning a no. 1 and no. 4 to cut the Bulldog lead to one with two matches on court. At no. 5, freshman Oscar Brouwer looked like he was going to run away with his match, winning the first set 6-0. He won the opening game of set two, but then dropped six games in a row to fall 6-1 and was forced to play a deciding set. He trailed 3-2 in third set but rallied to win the final four games clinching the match and the regular season championship for the Bulldogs.

Coach President commented on the men's match saying, "What a great conference run from our men's tennis team. They went 9-0 in conference play capturing the regular season title and clinching the #1 seed for the conference tournament. It was a nail biting match for sure, but we are so proud of all of these guys. But it's not over as yet! We still have to take care of business in the conference tournament."

Following the win, the Bulldogs honored Jakob Komel, the lone senior on this year's squad. Next up is the KCAC tournament. The Bulldogs will get a first round bye and will play on Friday at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, Kansas. Their opponent and match time will be announced later in the week.
