McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs men's tennis team won five championships this weekend at the KCAC Individual Championships in Lindsborg, Kan.
Reigning KCAC Freshman of the Year, Marcus Nardy took home the No. 3-singles title taking down second-seeded Gonzalez of Southwestern. Daniel Marcano followed suit with an 8-1 win in the finals over Bernardo Figueiredo of Ottawa, then Texas Ranger Schmidt wrapped up the singles portion of the championship with an 8-5 win over Sterling's Zack Hash to bring home the No. 6 singles title.
On the doubles side, Michael Beltran and Martin Millos defended their No. 1 doubles crown, taking down Kansas Wesleyan's Bryce Ware and Alex Sherer 8-3, while the duo of Arthur Nardy and Marcano knocked off Tomas Quercia and Rodrigo Sanchez of Bethel 8-6 to win No. 3 doubles.
Beltran came up short of winning his third consecutive No. 1 singles title, falling 9-8 in a tiebreaker to Ware. Oscar Brouwer finished in third place in No. 2 singles after falling in the semifinals to Michael Cech.
The Bulldogs will prepare this week for the ITA Regionals in Salina, Kan. starting Friday (Sep. 22).
