McPHERSON, Kan. — Athletics Director Josh Daume announced today (May 8, 2025) that Alex Mailes has been named the Director of Tennis at McPherson College.
"We are excited to welcome Alex and his wife Kaede to the Bulldog family," Daume said. "We are looking forward to getting him on campus and seeing the impact he will have in our programs and on our campus. We're confident that Alex will continue to build on the championship-level success of the program over the last several years." Mailes takes over a men's program that has won 10 straight KCAC championships, and a women's program that has won back-to-back KCAC championships.
Mailes comes to McPherson College after one season as the head men's tennis coach at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. In just his first semester, Mailes increased his team roster from four to 13 players. Campbellsville competes in the Mid-South Conference, one of the toughest NAIA conferences in the country for men's tennis. In his lone season with the Tigers, he coached Manuel Pinheiro who was named first-team All Mid-South Conference in the #1 singles position.
"I would like to thank Josh Daume and McPherson College for giving me the opportunity to lead such a historically dominant program," Mailes said. "I look forward to contributing to McPherson's culture of success both on and off the court."
Mailes earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of North Dakota and was a standout tennis player during his four years with the Fighting Hawks. He was named Newcomer of the Year and Most Improved player in his first two years at UND.
Prior to arriving in Grand Forks, N.D., Mailes was a three-year letter winner at Joplin High School in Joplin, Mo., where he posted a 14-1 record during his senior season, and was named all-conference three times.
