The Matchup
The McPherson men’s soccer team will host its final GPAC opponent of the year, Briar Cliff University, this Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8:00 p.m. at McPherson Stadium. Live stats will be available through www.macbulldogs.com
The Bulldogs (1-1-1) look to continue the positive momentum they received from their 4-2 victory against Manhattan Christian College last Wednesday night. The offensive outburst more than doubled MC’s season goal total, which prior to the match was at one goal. Senior forward
Brent Mulford (Topeka, Kan.) scored a pair of first half goals to give McPherson an early 2-0 lead. The Crusaders swung momentum back in their favor with two of their own, but the Bulldogs tallied two more in the second half for the win.
Mulford, a 2009 All-KCAC selection, continues to lead the team with six points on three goals. Junior captain

Andrew Suits (Henderson, Nev.) rank second on the team with two points, respectively.
Following this weekend, the Bulldogs finish their five-game home stand with a match against cross-town rival Central Christian College. McPherson hosts Central on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 8:00 p.m.
Last week for the Bulldogs
McPherson went 0-1-1 last week in home matches against Concordia University and the University of Sioux Falls. In Saturday’s loss to USF, McPherson recorded 17 shots, including seven shots on goal, but failed to find the back of the net.

Scouting Briar Cliff
BCU (1-1-0) enters the weekend off a, 0-4 loss at Grand View University (Iowa). Grand View dominated possession, outshooting the Chargers, 28-7. Prior to GVU, Briar Cliff won an exciting 2-1 overtime decision against Mount Mercy University as sophomore Parker Starosick netted his first goal the season five minutes into the overtime period.
The Chargers finished 2009 with a 9-9 overall mark and a 6-6 record in GPAC play. BCU had five players receive GPAC All-Conference honors, including current members Alex Witmer, Andrew Smith and Matt Boubel. Smith recorded five goals and seven assists a year ago, while Boubel had six goals and four assists on the season.
Head coach Pat Herbst (Briar Cliff, 1996) is in his third year as the men’s coach and first season at the helm of the women’s program. Prior to Briar Cliff, Herbst spent six years at Clarke College, where he guided the women’s team to two conference championships and was named NICC “Coach of the Year” twice.
