McPherson, Kan. – The 2013 season brings one of the toughest non-conference schedules that the men's soccer team at McPherson College has ever had; four of McPherson's opponents are currently ranked in the top-26 of the NAIA and another is on the verge.
Things kick off against the University of Texas at Brownsville on August 31st at 1:00 p.m. (CT) Game two will be held on September 2nd vs. Northwood University of Texas, also a 1:00 p.m. start.
The 2012 Bulldogs claimed a fourth place finish in the KCAC with a 6-3 record; they were 12-6-1 overall. The year came to a close in the semi-finals of the postseason tournament after a 4-2 loss to the eventual KCAC Champions Kansas Wesleyan University.
Six starters and a few second teamers return including Preseason All-KCAC performers Johnny Nuthall, Oscar Cortez and Rafael Fuentes. Out of the 10 newcomers, freshmen Zack Sudler and Nick Torres, a native of McPherson, look to add some more goals to MC's total. On the back line, transfers Danny Calleja, Octavio Villa and Doug Williamson look to stiffen up the team's D.
The KCAC men's soccer coaches placed the Bulldogs second in their 2013 preseason poll; Mac was just three votes behind KWU for the top spot.
MC will host two Iowa teams upon their return from Texas. Briar Cliff University and Morningside College travel to McPherson for a Saturday and Sunday match on September 7th and 8th, respectively.
