McPherson, Kan. – It was a hot one down in Texas for McPherson soccer as they competed against University of Texas-Brownsville and Northwood University this past weekend. The team came back to Kansas with two losses but learned a lot about their squad.
In their match against UTB, a team on the verge of entering the NAIA Top-25, the first half was an even one. Mac took the advantage with a goal from Doug Williamson (Los Angeles, Calif.) but the Ocelots tied things up right before half.
In the second period, Texas-Brownsville outplayed the Bulldogs and scored two quality goals to win it 3-1.
The second contest of the trip was against host school Northwood University. This was a tale of two halves for MC as they didn't come out ready to play. The Knights scored on a terrific goal sent on a rope from Cristian Costilla.
Half number two was completely controlled by McPherson as they came out and played with more aggression. The 'Dogs out shot NU but couldn't find the goal to equalize, moving them to 2-0 for the season.
Two home games are next on the schedule for Bulldog soccer. Briar Cliff University and Morningside College make their way to McPherson for games on September 7th and 8th, respectively; both matches are set for 3:30 p.m. on the McPherson College grass soccer fields.
