McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs took care of business this weekend knocking off Ottawa University (AZ) 4-2, before winning 6-1 over Midland University. The win over Midland avenges a loss with an identical score to the Warriors from a season ago.
MATCH ONE – MC 4, OUAZ 2
The Bulldogs secured the doubles point thanks to a 6-4 win by Isabella Ellerbee and Vanessa Hofer in the No. two spot.
Ava Bolin made it a 3-0 Bulldog lead with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win over Vanessa Gurule. But the Spirit trimmed the lead in half after the ninth-ranked player in the ITA West Region Katherine Busani knocked off Taimi Nashiku 6-2, 6-0.
Alexandria Garcia fell 6-4, 6-4 to Jelizaveta Govrova in a hard-fought battle, but Ellerbee finished off the match winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
MATCH TWO – MC 6, MU 1
The Bulldogs quickly won the doubles point after Nashiku/Sanchez defeated Lumanog/Fanton 6-3 in the top doubles position. Ortiz/Hofer gave the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead with a 6-2 win over Carle/Thompson.
From there, Camila Sanchez put MC up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win, then Zeynep Barut followed suit with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Elaina Fanton. Grace Maxey gave the Bulldogs the match win with a 6-1, 6-3 over Graziela Dallagnol.
Garcia made quick work of Krystal Olson, winning 6-0, 6-1, but the Warriors got their first and only point when Nashiku fell after winning the first set 3-6. Hofer finished things off with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Jeena Carle.
The Bulldogs hit the road for their Spring Break trip through Georgia next week. MC will take on (RV) Reinhardt on Monday (Mar. 11) before playing Point University on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will finish off the week with a matchup against the top squad in the NAIA in Georgia Gwinnett on Friday.
