Dr. Earl Kinzie ’28: Dr. Kinzie played basketball for McPherson College 1926-28 after being selected to the team from the school intramural program. A comment was made in the school newspaper, the “Spectator,” that Earl Kinzie was “the hardest working bulldog on the floor.” Together, the team won the 1928 Kansas Conference Championship and placed third in the national AAU tournament in Kansas City. Kinzie also lettered in tennis in 1927 and 1928. He was offered a professional contract to play basketball with the Firestone Rubber Company team, but chose coaching instead.

Ultimately, Kinzie became a doctor and practiced family medicine in Lindale, Texas, from 1941-1990. He delivered over 2,000 babies, among them, Earl Christian Campbell, who won the Heisman Trophy for the University of Texas. Dr. Kinzie is active in the First Baptist Church in Lindale, where he is a senior trustee. He has also served as secretary of the Foundation Board of Directors of Tyler Junior College, school board president, and charter member of the Rotary Club for 55 years.
