Kelly Cowan’s legacy is one of consistency, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to athletics—both on the field and on the sidelines.

A standout defensive presence at McPherson College, Cowan earned First-Team All-KCAC honors in 1972, capping off an impressive collegiate career. A three-year starter, he was selected as a team captain in both 1971 and 1972. Over the course of his career, Cowan recorded 13 interceptions, showcasing his playmaking ability in the secondary.

Following his playing days, Cowan transitioned seamlessly into coaching, where his impact only grew. He served as a head football coach at both Colby High School and Meade High School, helping shape young athletes and build competitive programs.

Cowan’s most enduring coaching legacy came in Colorado, where he spent 31 years as the head cross country and track & field coach at Hotchkiss High School. His dedication to developing student-athletes over three decades left a lasting mark on the school and the broader athletic community.

In recognition of his successful coaching career, Cowan was inducted into the Colorado Coaches Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023.

From his days as a Bulldog at McPherson College to a decades-long coaching career, Kelly Cowan rightfully belonged in the McPherson College Hall of Fame.
