Mary Hutchison Holloway ’73, Moundridge, Kan. Mary Hutchison Holloway shouldered a big tradition when she came to McPherson College. She was one of six siblings who attended McPherson College. While at McPherson, Holloway lettered in volleyball, basketball, and track, and as a freshman, she had the honor of scoring 29 points for the Lady Bulldogs in a basketball win over the University of Kansas. At the 1969 KCAC track and field championships, she won five events, setting meet records in all five. Holloway was also invited and participated in tryouts for the United States basketball team at the Pan-American Games.

Following her graduation, Holloway continued her involvement with athletics by officiating softball and coaching recreation league soccer, basketball, and softball. Her children have also carried on their mother’s tradition of excellence, especially on the basketball court. Her oldest son Brian was a basketball standout for McPherson College; younger son Jacy played at Iowa State; and most recently, daughters Tara and Deena have lit up the court at Emporia State University. Holloway has also served as a school board member at Moundridge for seven years, acted as co-chair of the Women’s Fellowship of the Church of the Brethren, and has been employed at Farmers Alliance Insurance Company in McPherson for the past 24 years.
