Dr. Mark Melhorn was an All-KCAC honoree in both football and tennis.

As a senior, he was the 1975 KCAC tennis champion at #3 singles and combined with 2006 Hall of Fame inductee Steve Burkholder to win the KCAC #1 doubles titles with a perfect 15-0 conference record. In 1974, the same duo placed second in the KCAC tournament after winning the ACCK title, which was Melhorn’s second ACCK doubles title. During his four-year collegiate career, Melhorn was All-KCAC and All-ACCK each year, and won 83% of his collegiate matches his final two seasons. Was 25-5 in singles play his final two seasons with only two conference losses.

In 1974, Melhorn was named to the All-KCAC football first team as a linebacker. He was credited with 53 unassisted tackles, 27 assists, and three recovered fumbles.

After earning his B.S. in chemistry from McPherson College, Melhorn received his M.D. from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and did advanced study in orthopaedic surgery at the UMKC-Wichita. He studied as a Boyes Fellow at the University of Southern California. Melhorn has served as clinical assistant professor in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.

A 1997 recipient of the McPherson College Young Alumni award, Melhorn currently resides in Wichita, Kan., where he is an occupational orthopaedic physician specializing in the hands and upper extremities with The Hand Center in Wichita.
