Career Highlights: 1946 basketball team captain, member of 1945-1946 men’s basketball conference championship team, three-time letter-winner in basketball, logged an overall 36-19 record, including 14-2 in 1943-1944 (tying the program record at the time for most wins in a season).

After MC: Markham has 35 years of teaching and coaching basketball at Kansas high schools to his name. Among his most prominent achievements were coaching the 1968 Wamego High School basketball team to a perfect 25-0 record and a 3A State Championship. Overall, he led Wamego to four state tournament appearances. Markham was induced to the Kansas Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Wamego High School Hall of Fame in 1997. Markham also coached the Wamego High School boy’s cross country team to a state championship in 1957 and was the founder of the Wamego Invitational Cross Country Meet. Markham devoted time outside of work to civic clubs, including the Rotary Club of Quinter, Lions Club of Grinnell and the Optimist Club of Dodge City.
